Moisture / Density Relationship

33-T0063
CONTROLS offers the soil compaction test equipment you need to perform Proctor Compaction Tests that assess the relationship between moisture content and density of compacted soil. By developing a curve using varying degrees of moisture with a standard compaction procedure, the Standard Proctor and the Modified method can be used to determine the optimal moisture content of soils as well as the resulting soil density and compaction ratio. Our equipment allows you to evaluate relative compaction and relative density of granular soils.

Main Features

  • Used for determining the relationship between the moisture content and density of compacted soil. The mould includes collar, mould body and base plate. Steel plates may be used at the end of compaction on top of last layer (optional). The rammer construction includes a guide sleeve with vent holes.
Different versions are available that conform to the various commonly used standards. They are all made of plated steel and are identical in shape, only differing slightly in diameter and capacity.
In this section moulds and rammers conforming to EN are shown.

For the extrusion of soil specimens from the mould, the Universal specimen extruder may be used, see Link to other products below.

An alternative (and preferable) method of compacting is to use an automatic compactor.

Description

CONTROLS Proctor/CBR universal compactor automatically performs programmable and uniform compaction cycles in full conformance to all standards. Users can automatically set dropping height with high precision. This eliminates inconsistencies in test data generated by manual adjustments and guarantees accurate and reliable results every time.

Multi-standards
Universal and fully automatic universal compactor matching all Standards EN, ASTM, AASHTO, AS, BS, NF, AS, and others, including central stroke.

Superior accuracy
The Proctor/CBR universal compactor continuously measures and adjusts the dropping height at each stroke during compaction. Equipped with a robust kit rammer,  high precision compaction is maintained throughout the whole compacting path.

Fully automatic and versatile
Dropping height is set from the digital display without the need for any manual adjustments. The mold fixing system uses a quick release clamping mechanism compatible with CONTROLS and most brands of CBR/Proctor molds*.

Optimal user interface
The user-friendly interface boasts a high-resolution color graphical display 128 by 80 pixels as well as a membrane keyboard. You can access pre-stored test procedures in multiple languages plus tailor test methods according to your needs.

Ergonomic and safe
This fully CE compliant machine features a double door system with see-through panels that provides a clear view and easy access to the testing chamber during compaction. If doors accidentally open, a safety switch will automatically stop the machine plus a STOP button is also close at hand in case of emergency.

Total functionality and easy operation
The machine is supplied with a universal impact rammer (50 mm and 2”dia.) that can be swapped in a few seconds. Adjusting the supplied weight is equally easy and can be done in one single operation.

A noise reduction steel cabinet with double top-and-front opening system and lined internally with soundproofing material is available on request.

Relative Density of Cohesionless Soil Test Sets

Two versions are available: 33-T0063/A Conforming to EN and 33-T0063 Conforming to ASTM

Standards EN 13286-5 ASTM D4253 ASTM D4254

33-T0063
Description

This method, in the EN standard, covers the determination of the maximum dry density and water  content of cohesionless materials when compacted using a vibrating table. Materials for which yhis method is applicable may contain up to 12% by mass fines (<0.063 mm). The maximum particle size of the materials to be tested is 80 mm. This method applies to mixtures to be used in road construction. The ASTM, also specify that it is used for the determination of the relative density of cohesionless soil for which impact compaction will not produce a well defined moisture-density relationship curve and where the maximum density of impact method will generally be less than by vibratory method.

The two versions: 33-T0063/A Conforming to EN and 33-T0063 Conforming to ASTM are practical identical except for the 0.1 cu.ft mould
