A De-airing water system removes the dissolved air from water in order to use this water for soil mechanics tests such as triaxial and permeability tests. Wykeham Farrance proposes two types of de-airing water systems: • Standard De-airing water system mainly consisting of a de-airing tank, vacuum water pump and valve panel. • Standalone De-airing all-in-one water system that will de-air water quickly and efficiently down to levels of dissolved air acceptable for geotechnical test methods.
De-airing Systems
Standalone De-Airing Water System
Standalone all-in-one de-airing water system removes the dissolved air from water.
Standalone all-in-one de-airing water system (28-wf4212)
Description
A de-airing water system removes the dissolved air from water in order to use this water for it soil mechanics tests (e.g triaxial and permeability) . Wykeham Farrance’s all-in-one unit will de-air water quickly and efficiently down to levels of dissolved air acceptable for geotechnical test methods.
How it works
- Simply place the De-airing Water Apparatus on a bench and fill the de-airing tank with water from the inlet valve.
- Start the de-airing procedure. As the pump applies vacuum to the de-airing tank , the magnetic system will begin to stir the water at high speeds (1000-2000 RPM). Cavitation will then occur allowing water to be de-aired much faster than when only using vacuum.
- Once finished, stop the cycle. The tank will automatically bring the air pressure back to normal, so it is ready to be pumped for filling the triaxial cell, pressure systems and hydraulic circuits. This procedure does not rely on gravity feeding.
High productivity
It takes 15 minutes to produce a 20 liter batch of de-aired water thanks to the smart combination of vacuum pumping and cavitation.
Small footprint
The system can be used on a bench with no need to fit on the wall a separate water tank to fill the triaxial cell.
Main Features
- SPACE SAVING: clever all-in-one design with vacuum pump, tank and control valves all integrated into one single unit needing only a small laboratory space.
- EASY TO INSTALL: turn-key self-pumping system replaces the more cumbersome gravity feed design.
- TIME SAVING: 20 liter batch of de-aired water can be produced in 15 minutes thanks to the smart combination of vacuum pumping and cavitation.
- ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY: diaphragm vacuum pump requires no oil

Standard De-Airing Water System
It removes the dissolved air from water in order to use this water for it soil mechanics tests
De airing water tank 23 l capacity mod. 28-WF4221/A
Description
De-airing the water, that will be used to fill triaxial cells, pressure systems and volume change measurement apparatus, is essential for properly saturating soil specimens.
The system comprises the following:
– A de-airing tank (two versions are available with 7 or 23 L capacity)
– Vacuum pump with air drying unit
– Valve panel
– Tubing and accessories
De-airing tank
The tanks consist of a transparent acrylic cylinder fitted with a water spray inlet, an air outlet, a water outlet and a metal stand which can be wall-mounted at a suitable level to fill the triaxial system by gravity. teo model are available 7 and 23 l capacity.
Vaccum pump with drying unit
The vacuum pump 86-D2001 has to be used with the air drying unit (86-D2005) filled with silica gel desiccant (86-D0819). This is recommended to avoid/limit water vapour mixing with the oil in the pump, which, in significant concentrations, may cause serious damage to the pump. When the pump will be used intensively, use of the outlet mist filter (86-D2001/3) is also recommended, which collects any oil vapour issuing from the oil reservoir during operation.
Valve panel
This panel controls the water going in and out of the de-airing tank. For connecting the de-airing tank to the vacuum pump. Includes water tap connection and two de-aired water outlets.
The valve panel, 28-WF4225, is usually affixed to the laboratory wall directly underneath the de-airing tank at a suitable height to be operated by hand.
