This section includes a range of tests ranging from binder drainage to affinity between aggregate and bitumen, and Rice test. Rice test is used to measure the maximum specific gravity (GMM) of a mix, and is a fundamental parameter for all volumetric evaluations. A range of large size pycnometers is available, together with suitable vibro-deaerator, vacuum pump and accessories.

Description
 
This digital thermometer can be used for various field and laboratory applications in road and concrete testing. Dual range, high resolution, housed in a rugged ABS case. Memory functions: simply press a button and the meter will recall the highest and lowest temperatures measured in the test cycle. Read both °C and °F. It is supplied without probes that has to be ordered separately conforming to the applications. For asphalt temperature measurements we recommend the following probes:

Description
 
Used for determining the theoretical maximum specific gravity of uncompacted bituminous paving mixtures. They can also be used for the calculation of the percent of air voids in compacted bituminous mixtures and the amount of bitumen absorbed by the aggregates.
We propose three models:
  • 75-D1122, heavy duty version, 10000 ml cap., specially designed for this application, made from robust transparent plastic and fit with vacuum gauge, coupling for vacuum application and vent valve. Suitable for paving mixtures samples of max. 6000 g, with maximum aggregate size of 50 mm (2”).
  • 75-D1123/C, aluminium canister 4500 ml cap., with transparent lid, fit with vacuum gauge, coupling for vacuum application and vent valve. Suitable for paving mixture sample of max. 2000 g, with max. aggregate size of 19.1 mm (¾”).
  • 75-D1123/D, 10000 ml cap., made from plastic with transparent cover, fit with vacuum gauge, coupling for vacuum application and vent valve. Suitable for paving mixtures sample of max. 6000 g, with max. aggregate size of 50 mm (2”).
All the above vacuum pyknometers have to be shaked gently for the evacuation of air by the 15-D0407/B vibro-deaerator with his clamping device 15-D407/B1. The complete set includes the vacuum pump with de-airing system. See accessories and Vacuum pumps.

Description
 
Used with a suitable electronic balance for specific gravity determination of laboratory compacted asphalt specimens, fresh and hardened concrete and aggregates. A purpose built robust frame designed to support the electronic balance. The lower part of the frame incorporates a moving platform, which carries the water container allowing the test specimens to be weighted in both air and water. The balance is not included and has to selected conforming to the weighing range required. Any type of electronic balance fit with an under bench weighing facility can be used as, for example, all our models. See Balances, electronic. The frame has to be completed with the 11-D0612/A1 cradle, to hold concrete cubes or cylinders, or with the suitable Density basket for use with asphalt specimens and aggregates.
