Manual Binder Extraction Systems - Hot Method

75-B0015 with hot plate
Hot Binder Extraction methods determine the binder content with a reduced amount of solvent, but require longer extraction times. They typically need to be operated under a fume exhaust cupboard. The system configurations, Kumagawa and Reflux are the most common ones; they need different glassware based on various international standards.

Kumagawa Extractor

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples

Standards EN 12697-1

75-B0018
Description

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. It consists of a balloon, cooling unit, Dean-Stark stopcock, electric heating mantle with regulator and fittings. Two models available: 1 liter and 2 liter capacity. The filtering cartridges are not part of the apparatus and have to be ordered separately. See accessories. The solvent used can be profitably recovered with the solvent recovery unit. Weight approx.: 15 kg

Paper Filter Extractor

Used for the extraction of binder from hot mixed paving mixtures.

Standards EN 12697-1 EN 12697-14

75-B0016
Description

Used for the extraction of binder from hot mixed paving mixtures. It can also be used for determining the moisture content. This model is one of the versions of the hot extractors accepted by the EN Standards as the wire mesh extractor, Kumagawa extractor and reflux extractors.
It consists of:
  • Steel pot with gasket and gauze container
  • Dean and Stark receiver
  • Liebig condenser
  • Pack of 100 filter paper No. 54×400 mm dia.
  • It has to be used with a suitable hot plate. See accessories. The solvent used can be profitably recovered with the \#solvent-recovery-unit\#. Overall dimensions (assembled): 1000x500x500 mm Weight approx.: 25 kg

Reflux Extractors

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples

Standards ASTM D2172

75-B0013/A, 10-D1402/D, 86-D1441
Description

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. The bitumen content is calculated by difference from the weight of extracted aggregates, moisture content and ash from an aliquot par of the extract. The apparatus consists of a two wire mesh cones with interlocking frames, a cylindrical glass jar and a water condenser with inlet/outlet tubes. Two models available: 1 and 4 liters capacity. The extractors have to be used with a suitable hot plate with aluminium disk for better heat distribution. The filter paper is not included and have to be ordered separately. See accessories. The solvent used can be profitably recovered with the solvent recovery unit.

Wire Mesh Extractor

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot mixtures and pavement samples.

Standards EN 12697-1

75-B0013/A, 10-D1402/D, 86-D1441
Description

Used for the quantitative determination of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. The bitumen content is calculated by difference from the weight of extracted aggregates. The filler, or ash, passing through the 63 µm basket has then to be separated from the bitumen/solvent solution using the appropriate centrifuge extractor. See filterless centrifuge binder extractors, model 75-B0024/N. The unit has to be used with a suitable hot plate as our model 10-D1402/D with Aluminium disk 75-B0015/6 for better heat distribution. See accessories. It consists of a glass jar, of a wire basket suspended in the jar by a supporting ring, of a metal condenser and of a wire basket 63 µm opening. The solvent used can be profitably recovered with the solvent recovery unit.
  • Max. basket capacity: 3 kg
  • Overall dimensions: 335 mm high by 165 mm dia.
  • Weight approx.: 2.8 kg
